Never.

On Saturday we drove from Madrid to Cordoba. After quite a few adventures during the day (sharing days with Marco and Clara makes them quite unpredictable, but quite good), once it was late at night, we decided to have a caña -small glass of beer- and then go for a walk.
We walked around the old city until we got out of it, reaching a park. I see a group of 8 guys with soft drinks and alcoholic beverages right there in the park. They were basically having a mini-party.
"Isn't this illegal ?" I ask.

Decidi ir a España a vistar a mis amigos Marco y Clara.
Weekend between the working days in France. I decided to go to Spain to visit my friends Clara and Marco. I had to travel on Friday night so that I could use the working day at the office and get a decent airfare. So I got to Madrid at midnight.
I arrived in the new terminal 4. Quite nice, lots of lights, high celings and open spaces. Very 1st world.
But that is not what impresses me, or better said, I remember where I really am, once I go out of the arrivals area. Very different of what I could expect if I had arrived in Vancouver at midnight. There are literally hundreds of people waiting for the travellers to arrive. Just like it would be in Mexico as well. Even though it is late, and you have to drive across the city with endless traffic jams. It is the intention what counts. That knowing that there is someone there waiting for you.
But in my case, there was no one yet. As always with these two friends, they were late.
But even then, when they got there, it felt the same...

Back in Paris. After being in Vancouver for only one week, I had to come back to deal with issues on the project I am working on. This time, the hotel is quite farther away from the office, in the eastern part of Paris, close to Metro Republique.
Last night, I stayed in the office to work until 10:00 pm, I rode the metro, and I was close to not even stopping to have dinner. But I saw the italian restaurant from where I took the picture (after all phonecams do have a purpose). After all, I manage to order my food, beer and bill in french. Not bad.

Good.
Saturday morning. Martha's reading the newspaper and mentions this movie, La Science des Rêves. It is showing at Fifth Avenue Cinemas, and she says "Gael García Bernal is starring". I go to imdb.com and see more information. Michel Gondry, the director, is the same guy who did Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, so this means that this movie, because of the title, main actor and director, has big chances of being quite surreal. Good. It's been a while since I see a movie that actually keeps me thinking.
Sarah does not want to go to see it on Saturday, so on Sunday she stays with Tere and Martha and I go to the matine. The teathre, which has new seating, totally reminds me of Cinemex Altavista.
The movie is everything I am expecting : humour, Gaelito's latin accent, in France, but above everything, it is not clear what are dreams and what is reality. A big part of the movie is quite confusing trying to figure out whether things are really happening or not. But it does not matter. We sit confortably and enjoy. We laugh. We laugh about some of the jokes that maybe not everybody gets. The best of all : both of us keep thinking about the movie after it is over. I remember why I like going to the teathre to watch movies.
That said, this is the kind of movie you love or hate. If you want a clear simple sequence of actions, this one is not for you.

El asiento / The seat
Nadie junto a mi todavia.
When I have to travel for business, I typically do it by myself. This was the case on this last trip. As I was booking my trip, the travel agent told me that I would have to "sit next to somebody else", probably meaning that I would have a middle seat. I told her, joking that she should sit me next to a good looking woman. She said, of course, that it was something she could not arrange unfortunately.
In the end I was able to use a upgrade certificate I had for business class, so the trip was quite comfortable. But I knew I could not use another certificate on the trip back.
After I had breakfast today in London, I hurried to the gate where the plane was departing from. There were not any seats left to sit on, so I ended up seating on the floor. And I started looking around at the other passengers : most of the of an older age, most likely retired people. But one of the exceptions was a young woman -red passport : european- who, althought not model material, caught my attention.
So a few minutes went by and people started to board the plane, starting from the last rows, I had 14K, so I had to wait, and as the gate was emptying, the young woman was still there. And I had a thought....
Finally it was my turn, I boarded the plane, and took my seat, a window seat, just as I like it. Nobody next to me yet.
But a few minutes later, someone did arrive. Right now I am writing this, and it seems, that after all, the travel agent managed to make my wish come true !

I don't know if it is because it hurts to pay so much money for a taxi cab (45 E or more), or because I don't want to give explanations to the driver in French on how to get my hotel, or because of my fascination with urban mass transportation. But when I've arrived to Paris by plane, I prefer to take the train/metro from the Airporte.
Sometimes there is many people, and it is very likely that it will take me more time (and stairs) to reach my final destination, but I think that I am able to feel the city better. This last time, I was in the RER B, just about to get off it, to transfer to the Metro.
I am looking through the window and read Châtelet Les Halles on the station walls, while the trains is slowing down, going through the long station that alternates columns with open spaces., with people standing or sitting waiting for their train. I thought : "I've seen this somewhere", and even though there was no music, I could almost hear 7 Seconds (from about '95).
But now that I think of it, I'm not even sure if I "saw" it before. It is very likely an amalgamation of memories : a czech movie we saw at the Vancouver Film Festival with that music, a photograph in a Global Metro book I have (which I bought thanks to Colors magazine), another movie, and maybe even a Lonely Planet show.
But it does not matter, now my memory is pleasant, even though I was standing a bit tight with my luggage. Because of these moments, I prefer to take the train...

Realmente no tengo opcion.
